Kyiv approves new subway line

The Town Planning Council of Kyiv approved the scheme of the Dnieper river's left-bank subway live Troeschyna - Osokorky.

Subway station projects will be considered by the council separately, and a tender for their designs will be invited, deputy chair of the Kyiv city state administration Eduard Leschenko said Wednesday.

The construction project customers are municipal enterprise Kyivskyi Metropoliten and Subway Construction Directorate.

The project proposed envisages construction of a subway line having a total length of 11 kilometers, and eight stations.

The line will connect Troeschyna with the Raiduzhnyi residential areas.

During implementation of the second stage, it is planned to build two more subway stations: Horodnia and Dniprovska.

The designers proposed that the Troeschyna-Osokorky line run on the surface under the cover, except for the sector near the Dniprovska station, where it is planned to preserve the railway running above.

The project envisages that the length of the platform will be 126 meters, which will make it possible to service six-car trains.

The construction of the first subway line will take five years.

The 45-station Kyiv subway system, which opened in 1960, consists of three lines with a combined length of 65 km. It transports around 1.7 mn per day.
