The Kyiv City State Administration believes that it is necessary to build round 70 hotels in the capital for the European football competition of 2012.
Journalists learned this from head of the Main Municipal Economy Department Mykhailo Shparyk.
"According to preliminary estimates, this will be 70 hotels, including small and other hotels. However, it does not mean that we'll stop on this amount - if we have a chance to build more, we'll do it," Shparyk said.
He believes that the number of places in hotels should be raised from 16,000 to 32,000 owing to new facilities.
"According to preliminary estimates, the amount of places should be increased by the number we already have," he said.
He stressed that the construction will be performed at the expense of investors.
At the same time, Shparyk believes that optionally the Kyiv City Council may find free land parcels for building hotels.
"Today we have 26 land plots in Kyiv in process, where we're designing or building hotel complexes," he noted.
He says that hotels should be built on the city entries.
Shparyk noted that the Kyiv administration is working on the layout of hotels, taking into consideration the program for development of small hotels before 2010.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, on April 18, Ukraine and Poland won the tender for hosting UEFA Euro 2012.
The Kyiv City State Administration is going to draw USD 300 million in construction of small hotels before 2010.
Earlier, the administration said that the capital needs to build 40 hotels for 4,300 guests by 2010.
At present, there are 118 hotels in Kyiv, including 23 large and 60 medium-sized hotels, as well as hotel-type dormitories.
All these hotels are able to receive round 16,000 people.
